Today is the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting the Gulf Coast and there have been many stories printed and aired marking this occasion.  

Earlier this year, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC) posted their 2010 hurricane season outlook and it would appear that this has the potential to be a rough season.   Read the rest of this entry »

Trash

 The Environmental Protection Agency reported that in 2006, “… U.S. residents, businesses, and institutions produced more than 251 million tons of municipal solid waste, which is approximately 4.6 pounds of waste per person per day.”  (http://www.epa.gov/osw/nonhaz/index.htm)  

In other words, each person in the U.S. created, on average, 1,679 pounds of trash that year. Read the rest of this entry »
