What We Can Learn From Cats

There are perhaps many lessons one can learn from cats as they tend to be quite independent and adaptable.  For instance, Dodger came into our lives many years ago having been a stray.  Fortunately for her, she was brought to a loving household.  Unfortunately for her, there were several other cats living here at the time.  As a result, Dodger was one high-strung kitty so we had to modify her living arrangements a bit.  Now, she is the only one and has settled down very nicely into a life of leisure that includes LOTS of downtime.  She has become wholly enamoured with an old armchair, which is her new favourite place to nap.

For humans,  living in the 21st century often presents an overwhelming number of stressors (the everyday demands on our time) that result in the subjective experience of stress (the wear and tear on the mind and body).  So… perhaps Dodger exemplifies what may be the greatest takeaway from observing cats:  find a comfortable place, unplug from all the distractions that compete for our attention and make our minds buzz and bodies hum, and just be quiet and rest for a bit-even if it is for just a little bit.

Take care.
