In 1776, the United States enacted the Declaration of Independence separating America from England-July 4 is the day honoured as our birthday, so Happy Birthday to all who celebrate.

The concept of independence is a cultural universal held by many around the world.  India, for example, achieved independence from British rule on August 15, 1947 and South Sudan is the world’s newest country, having gained independence on July 9, 2011.  The right to participate in the democratic process free from threat is one to be desired and celebrated.

Take care and be safe.

  1. It is important to note that some countries, like Ethiopia, which by coincidence boarders South Sudan, doesn’t cerebrate independence day because they were never really colonized, same as Liberia!
